At the Security and Privacy Analytics Laboratory (SePAL), we combine technical, behavioral, and adversarial perspectives to study real-world security and privacy problems and develop defenses that work in practice.

About the lab

SePAL is a security and privacy research laboratory at Drexel University. We study how security and privacy problems emerge from interactions among people, software systems, AI, and adversarial behavior. Our work spans human-centered security and privacy, cybercrime and threat intelligence, software and systems security, and AI security and cyber defense.

We combine large-scale measurement, program analysis, adversarial experimentation, and empirical user research to understand real-world threats and develop effective defenses, human-centered interventions, and evidence-based education and training.

Research areas

People are central across these areas: as attackers, victims, users, developers, analysts, defenders, and learners, they shape the security problems we study and the defenses we design.

Human-Centered Security & Privacy

Empirical research on human perception, judgment, and behavior in security and privacy, and on interventions, education, and training that improve security practice.

Cybercrime & Threat Intelligence

Large-scale measurement and analysis of cybercrime actors, campaigns, infrastructure, and underground services to support threat intelligence, detection, and disruption.

Software & Systems Security

Static and dynamic program analysis, symbolic execution, and security testing for discovering, understanding, and mitigating vulnerabilities in real-world software and systems.

AI Security & Cyber Defense

Security and privacy of AI systems, AI-enabled threats and defenses, and how AI assistance shapes security analysis, decision-making, and learning.
